This Is A Call To Unity – Klamath Ag Stand Together!

Our movement isn’t only about the Klamath Project getting shut down, though for many that is a turning point. If Klamath Basin agriculture goes down, so does all of our communities.

Upper Basin family ranchers have been diligent in fencing off streams and restoring habitat. In spite of their hard work and trying to appease government agencies, they continue to have their access to water cut off. This is a story that is all too frequent throughout our region.

On Project, irrigation efficiencies are implemented constantly that help water go further. Some farmers are even rearing sucker fish to help improve their numbers and to keep the fish from extinction.

Agriculture is the lifeblood of the communities in Klamath, Siskiyou and Modoc counties. For every dollar that a family farm or ranch brings in, it generates another nine in the community. Add in the jobs generated by farms and ranches and the taxes generated on their revenues, Klamath Basin agriculture is more than way of life – it’s what keeps our rural communities alive.

We need to stand together during these trying times. It doesn’t matter if you live in Bonanza, Chemult, Dorris or Alturas, if the Klamath Project gets shut down, all of our rural communities will be hurt.
